ALASKAN WILDWOODS log furniture begins
in the peace and quiet of the great Alaskan woods.
Trees
having grown there for over a hundred years take on their shapes with
the influence of wind, snow loads, beetles, and genetics.
From the amazing sight of a tree full of burls, to the tiny spruce bark beetle chewing its way into a tree, nature is creating the character in the wood that we look for. These wonderful shapes and colors are what we try to high light in the furniture we build.
Our raw materials are harvested in many areas of the state, from the Yukon River to the Gulf of Alaska.
The logs used by ALASKAN WILDWOODS are primarily black spruce and the burls are from the white spruce. Black spruce is a slow growing, dense grained, very hard wood. A four inch diameter tree can be 100 years old.
The logs are hand peeled by draw knife before being chosen for a particular piece of furniture. The time proven method of mortise and tenon joinery is used in all of our work and produces furniture that will last for generations.
Enjoy your visit through the ALASKAN WILDWOODS website and you will note the unique character and high quality of all our work.
